BIOGRAPHY

I was born in Aydin, Turkey, in 1969. I was graduated from Ege University Medical School in 1993. In 1994, I started my residency in Dokuz Eylul University Medical School, Department of Emergency Medicine. I conducted research on the “Role of end-tidal CO2 monitoring in patients intubated and resuscitated in the emergency department” as my thesis for specialty graduation in 1998. I have worked as a faculty member between 1998 and 2007 in Dokuz Eylul University Medical School, Dept. of Emergency Medicine. I have gained docentship title in October, 2004. In the meantime, I completed the Fellowship Program in International Emergency Medicine Pennsylvania State University, Dept. of Emergency Medicine, Hershey, PA in June-August 2005. I have served as the chairman of the department in DEU between April 2005 and September 2007. I have been in charge of the ED of Istanbul Bakirkoy Research and Training Hospital for the Turkish Ministry of Health between 2007 and 2009. I have served as a faculty member in Acıbadem University Medical School, Dept. of Emergency Medicine between 2009 and 2015. In the meantime (2011), I have also participated in the refreshment work for the Joint Commission International (JCI) certification in the Acibadem Bakirkoy Hospital. At the end of 2015 I started serving in the Dept. of Emergency Medicine, Istanbul Education and Research Hospital, Fatih, Istanbul. Thirty-four research projects have been conducted as specialty graduation thesis under my supervision so far. 166 articles of mine were published or accepted in international peer-reviewed journals and 75 in national ones. I have authored ten original books and completed four editorships, and around forty chapters, besides three translations. I have given lectures and joined in educational activities in various symposia and seminars. I have also contributed in a total of 76 abstract presentations in scientific congresses and meetings. I serve as a member of the editorial team of the journals ‘Signa Vitae’ (Section of Emergency Medicine), “Frontiers in Pediatrics” (Associate Editor in Methods in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Care 2022) and “Frontiers in Public Health” (Associate Editor in Life-Course Epidemiology and Social Inequalities in Health),” and guest editor in “Diagnostics” which are included in the SCI-Expanded list. I am also an instructor of the American Heart Association-based Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course. I was awarded with a “Fellowship of Emergency Medicine Association of Turkey” (FEMAT) in 2017. Five edited book projects entitled ‘Trauma Surgery’, ‘Poisoning in the Modern World’, and ‘Cardiac Diseases and Interventions in 21st Century’, ‘Emergency Medicine and Trauma’ and ‘Atrial Fibrillation - Diagnosis and Management in the 21st Century’ were published between 2018 and 2022, with the collaboration of the publisher InTechOpen. Recently, three book projects of mine entitled "Demystifying COVID-19: Understanding the disease, Its Diagnosis and Treatment” and “Cardiac Care and COVID-19: Perspectives in Medical Practice” and “Abdominal Pain: Essential Diagnosis and Management in Acute Medicine” were published by Bentham Science Publishers. I am the editor of Research Topic “Methods in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Emergency Care 2022” in the Journal Frontiers in Pediatrics (Impact Factor 3.4) in 2022 (https://www.frontiersin.org/research-topics/36566/methods-in-general-pediatrics-and-pediatric-emergency-care-2022). All these publications have been cited 2230 times so far (ResearchGate). My research interests are resuscitation, advanced life support, pain management, airway emergencies, geriatric emergency medicine, disaster medicine, trauma and toxicology, infections, and lastly, diagnosis and management of COVID-19. Since April 2023, I have volunteered with the World Health Organization (WHO) Expert and United Nations (UN) consultant contract within the scope of the Azerbaijan Pandemic Response (APR) Program.
